After six exhilarating  Speedcar Super Series rounds across four states of Australia; New Zealand’s Michael Pickens claimed overall victory in the SSS Championship.

Conquering Newcastle team-mate Adam Clarke and Sydney’s Mark Brown; six podium finishes from six starts including two "A" feature victories. A 445 point lead secured the number one spot with Pickens crowned the 2005-2006 Speedcar Super Series Champion.

The Pickens, Clarke and Brown trio have been at the front of the pack throughout the SSS campaign together with Steven Graham who unfortunately dropped from the series after his accident at the national titles, along with SSS international guest Jerry Coons Jnr during round 4. This standout group of racers were joined by the likes of Dene McAllan from WA who finished in 4th, 5th placed Grant Draney from Queensland, followed by Matt Young, Ben Wiese, Stevie Walsh (who moved from New Zealand to contest the series with the Peter Bourke Carline Team!), Troy Jordan and rookie racer Tarin Edge.

Some notable mentions from the SSS need to be discussed! Pickens vs Clarke battling each other for the lead on more than one occasion, showing no sign of team favours, the Seamount duo were crowd favourites after a number of Pole Shuffle clashes and closing lap A Main challenges!

Likewise how good has Mark Brown finished with his 05/06 Adila Motorsports Aggressor Mopar ride? Not only did Mark cross the line home third in the Championship with no less than five podium placings from six starts; he also won the new Breka Chassis kit from SSS major sponsor Breka of New Zealand! A welcome end to the SSS for the Rondalee Rocket and his team.

The West Aussie McAllan Motorsports Team by far travelled the most throughout the series, clocking up over 40,000 kilometres per person, closely followed by the Seamount Team who flew in each round from Auckland New Zealand at over 35,000 kilometres per team member (hope they have flier miles!). Queensland’s Grant Draney has added another 17,000 odd kilometres to his tow car over the six rounds, and each Sydneysider on the tour has travelled approximately 12,000 kilometres each! Lastly Victorian’s Troy Jordan & Harley Bishop and South Aussie Ben Wiese would have travelled just over 9,000 and 8,000 kilometres respectively! Can’t do much but praise the dedication of these teams and drivers and their tireless efforts to go racing for us Speedcar fans!

Rookie Speedcar stars Stevie Walsh from New Zealand and Sydney’s own rookie racer took to the road this season with the SSS and the improvements are impressive to behold! Despite a couple of rolls during the 6 rounds, Tarin more recently qualified for his first ever Pole Shuffle which itself is an impressive feat for any Speedcar racer! Likewise Stevie finished up 8th in the championship despite non-finishes in a couple of A Mains due to engine issues. Stevie, who has now returned to New Zealand with plans to fly onto the US again shortly, will this year be hoping to steer not only his Sprint ride stateside, but a Midget too!
